Sport England and YST have been compiling a bulletin which provides operational updates on all matters relating to the new PE and Sport Strategy for Young People. This is a combined bulletin, which is also being sent by Sport England to County Sport Partnership colleagues and is intended to become a one-stop-shop for updates on the strands of the new strategy. This, we hope, will be sent out at least once per term, so all sectors of the PE and sport infrastructure receive the same information, to facilitate better local working practice.

As part of the new Physical Education and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) you will be aware that the DCSF has placed a substantial emphasis onto the delivery of coaching hours in a school sport setting. This has resulted in each School Sport Partnership (SSP) receiving a TOP Up grant of £21,500 per year reviewed on an annual basis. You will have been informed of the elements of this work at the recent PDM Interface days. Part of the programme involves the deployment by the SSP of the coaching resource against the 5 Hour Offer predominantly to support participation in traditional sports where demand exceeds supply. To ensure this work is focused and effective, a self review based development plan has been designed to help you with this process, as well as to support and compliment your Evaluation and Priorities document.
We expect that the plan will be completed in partnership with the local coaching infrastructure and that ideally detailed conversations with the person responsible for coaching in your CSP (coaching leads) will have taken place before submission. The completed plan should be submitted to your YST Development Manager electronically by 25th July 2008 or the end of the academic year which ever comes first in your local authority. The plans will then be approved by the YST Development Manager in partnership with the regional Sports Coach UK Manager. Subject to a satisfactory plan being submitted, School Sport Coaching Programme funding will be included into your Annual Award payment from Momenta in September 2008.
To support your planning process we have attached details of the existing network of DCMS Community Sports Coaches based on an audit completed in December 2007, however there may be some slight variation in the coaching workforce. Support is also available from Sports Coach UK with the process of engaging with CSP Coaching Leads and in identifying coaching need in your area.
