As from September 2008 the contribution that schools make to promote community cohesion will be inspected. The guidance for schools asks them to consider how their contribution will impact on teaching, learning and the curriculum, equity and excellence and the engagement of the community and extended services agenda.
Faith Schools that are also Sports Colleges already feel they make a unique contribution to this agenda and a conference is planned that will affirm and celebrate this. It will also look closely at the duty in terms of Ofsted and section 48 inspections and support schools in being able to evidence this through their SEF. The conference takes place at the National Centre for Early Music in York on 16 July. St Mary’s College, Hull, is hosting the event which is sponsored by the Youth Sport Trust and also supported by the Catholic Education Service and the National Society Education Division.
This conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to listen and participate in a number of keynotes, workshops, and seminars, as well as informal networking, which will give them an opportunity to explore the duty on schools to promote community cohesion.
The conference is free and open to all Sports Colleges that are also Faith Schools.
