The Youth Sport Trust, in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and practitioners within School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) have been delivering the Foundation and KS1 Participation Award for the past 3 years. The award is designed to support 3-7 year olds record and increase their participation in physical activity and is aimed at primary schools, special schools and early year settings to support their delivery of physical education, physical activity and out of school hours learning in sport.
Following the feedback received, the award has had a tremendous impact in the development of 3-7 year old children and SSPs implementing it have found that they have increased participation rates as a result. Additionally, it has also been identified that primary schools have gained more parental support and interest in the school as a whole and enabled Teachers to increase their confidence through workshops, in the delivery of PE and physical activity both in the curriculum and out of school hours.
Following the demand and interest from early year sites and primary schools wishing to access the award, resources can now be viewed and purchased by going online and visiting www.YSTdirect.org, clicking on the primary section. In addition to this further workshops will be established across the country during the months of January and February 09.
