A new wave of partnerships between schools, universities, charities and local businesses aimed at raising standards has been announced.
The Government's aim to create more Trust schools remains firm and about 70 schools have signed on so far. So are they reveling in their new-found freedom?

South Dartmoor Sports CollegeSouth Dartmoor Community College is one of five Sports Colleges nationally pursuing Trust School status as a Pathfinder School. This is a new type of school and part of the government strategy to provide more diversity of choice for parents locally but still being part of the Local Authority system.
All this week, students from Park House School & Sports College in Newbury and students from Sithengile High School in Durban, South Africa have been taking part in a unique and highly distinctive ‘Dreams and Teams’ activity theme week at the University of Bath.

More Funding for Schools wishing to take on Trust status. On 14th May 2007 the Department for Education and Skills announced that they will be offering schools a further opportunity to apply for funding to help with the set up costs of becoming a Trust school. 16 Sports Colleges achieve Early Adopter statusThe Government’s vision for a diverse education system gained further support from a further 16 Sports Colleges that have been successful in applying for Early Adopter status in order to explore becoming Trust schools.
Trust School Pathfinder Conference - 'Leading Reform'A joint DfES, SSAT and YST Trust Schools Pathfinder Conference held last month attracted nearly 200 delegates.
The event, which offered Pathfinder partners the opportunity to share experiences and learn more about the Trust process, was warmly welcomed by delegates.
