Development Managers are here to support your SSP across all facets of development and innovation in line with the new PSA target of five hours of sport for every child by 2012. However, there are some specific developments around your SSP’s strand that will be a focus for 20% of your work over the next couple of years that will lead to best practice examples and solutions in these work areas. The strands were based on the 2005/06 PESSCL data and demonstrated that there were specific development needs for SSPs that fell into the following bands:
85% and above - 2010 Pathfinders
- Eight Development Managers working with 134 School Sport Partnerships nationally
- Concentrating on the development areas of high quality club, coach and competitive opportunities
- Engaging the top 40% of young people in 5 hours with particular emphasis on the +3 hours
- Identifying and engaging the key external partners that will enable greater diversity in terms of community provision for 5-19 year olds
- Specifically working with Sport England, NGBs and CSPs throughout this process
- Working with a select group of secondment posts across the country with an R&D focus on areas such as the volunteer to coach pathway, CSP relationships, competition structures, NGB and SSP planning and engagement and club accreditation.

- Identifying challenges and solutions to increasing participation through focusing on primary settings and key stage transition
- Enhancing advocacy skills to support engagement of all primary schools in the PESSCL strategy
- Ensuring effective transition arrangements
- Understanding the barriers to engagement in the PESSCL strategy
- Developing a range of programmes to support the needs of the network

- 6 Development Managers working with 96 School Sport Partnerships nationally
- Identifying the key blocks and issues in the way of the 2006 75% PSA target, to then work towards the new 2012 PSA for 5 hours PE and School Sport
- Increasing participation in key population groups
- Alternative activities in alternative places
- Growth of leaders to support participation and competition in these activities
- Identifying and engaging the key external partners that will enable greater diversity in terms of provision for 5-19 year olds

- Sharing innovative and effective approaches to PE curriculum design
- Ensuring effective vocational learning opportunities in Sport/PE for all young people
- Supporting high quality learning in examination PE

- Direct support to targeted Sports Colleges to ensure the maintenance of a high quality specialism
